UNC REX Healthcare and UNC Medical Center Co-workers to Collect School Supplies for Students

“Stuff the Bus” events on Aug. 11 will help students start the school year with needed supplies

RALEIGH and CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh and UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill will host two “Stuff the Bus” school supply drives on Friday, Aug. 11, to support children and teachers in our communities. The events will collect supplies to help students in the Wake County Public School System and Orange County School System get the tools they need to succeed as the traditional school year starts.

WHY:
As large employers in Wake and Orange counties, UNC REX and UNC Medical Center are committed to helping our compassionate co-workers make a positive impact in the communities where we live and work. The “Stuff the Bus” campaigns follow similar donation drives by co-workers at UNC REX and UNC Medical Center held last October for victims of Hurricane Matthew.

WHEN/WHERE:
Co-workers at UNC REX and UNC Medical Center, as well as UNC Physicians Network, will collect supplies within their departments during the week of Aug. 7. On Friday, Aug. 11, volunteer co-workers will load the supplies onto buses parked outside the hospitals.

  • UNC REX: 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, outside the “Patient Tower” entrance (NOTE: UNC REX welcomes donations of school supplies from the public during this time)
  • UNC Medical Center: 2 p.m., 101 Manning Drive, Chapel Hill, in front of the N.C. Cancer Hospital

WHO:
Volunteer co-workers at UNC REX and UNC Medical Center will help “Stuff the Bus” at both locations, collecting the donated school supplies and loading them onto school buses. Interview and visual opportunities will be available. To arrange interviews, contact Kerry Heckle at kerry.heckle@unchealth.unc.edu or 919-889-8843.
