Contact Dermatitis
UNC Dermatology Contact Dermatitis Clinic conducts patch testing to determine if the patients' skin condition are caused by an allergic reaction to any specific substances. This process involves several patch testing visits. Upon completion of this process, the patient will be provided with the results and advised of any allergies they may have as well as how to minimize possible reoccurrence.
Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune diseases are when your immune system incorrectly fights against the body’s own tissues leading to damage of the skin and other tissues. Some of these conditions affect only the skin, and others affect the skin and internal organs.
These diseases are complex and require highly specialized treatment by expert physicians in immunodermatology. At UNC Hospitals Dermatology & Skin Cancer Centers, you will work with our specialists who are world experts in diagnosing and treating these autoimmune diseases. Our diagnostic procedures include evaluations of skin biopsies and highly specific immunological studies.

Cosmetic and Laser Services
Cosmetic Dermatology
We provide a wide range of services associated with cosmetic and laser dermatology. These elective services include applications of BOTOX®, injectable fillers, chemical peels and laser treatments. Services offered include:

Laser Services
We provide laser and light-based therapies for a variety of infantile, pediatric and adult conditions. During your consultation, strategies will be reviewed to treat your condition and discuss likely outcomes. Often, multi-modal therapy (medical, laser, and surgical) provides improved results. A multidisciplinary team of UNC physicians specializing in each area can be assembled to treat your condition.

Pigmented Lesion and Melanoma
The Pigmented Lesion and Melanoma Clinic serve patients with a history of melanoma, dysplastic nevi, multiple nevi and/or a family history of melanoma. You will receive a complete skin examination, and in some cases, with the additional use of baseline cutaneous digital imaging, dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy.
The physicians with a special interest in melanoma, including dermatology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology and pathology, meet bimonthly as the Multidisciplinary Melanoma Group to discuss difficult cases. Conditions and diagnoses treated by UNC Dermatology Pigmented Lesion and Melanoma Clinic include:
- Dysplastic nevi (moles)
- Melanoma
- Other melanocytic nevi including birthmarks, Spitz moles and multiple moles
High-Risk Skin Cancer Clinic
The High Risk Skin Cancer Clinic is a collaborative service line where our providers work in conjunction with our Mohs surgery unit. These are often patients who are immunosuppressed or are transplant recipients. These patients are managed with multiple different treatment modalities including use of topical medications, photodynamic therapy and ablative laser technology.
