Endocrinology encompasses a wide range of conditions. No matter your diagnosis, when you receive treatment at UNC Endocrinology – UNC Hospitals Outpatient Center at Eastowne you can expect to the highest level of care. What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is a field of medicine that treats diseases that affect the body’s hormone-producing glands, including those responsible for aspects of the body’s metabolism. Endocrine conditions most commonly disrupt the normal function of the following glands or organs:

  • Hypothalamus
  • Pituitary
  • Adrenals
  • Thyroid
  • Parathyroids
  • Ovaries
  • Testes
  • Endocrine pancreas

Each of these glands or organs affects the way that the body regulates its internal environment.

What Do We Treat?

The most common conditions that we treat are:

  • Diabetes

  • Overactive Thyroid Gland

  • Underactive Thyroid Gland

  • Thyroid Cancer

  • Osteoporosis

  • Overactive Parathyroid Glands

We also see patients who are experiencing:

  • Hypothalamic Diseases, including:
    • Diabetes Insipidus: Excess thirst from inadequate vasopressin production or action
    • Excess Prolactin: A hormone associated with lactation
  • Diseases of the Pituitary Gland, including:
    • Acromegaly: excessive production of growth hormone
    • Cushings Syndrome: excess cortisol, a steroid hormone
    • Underactive pituitary or hypopituitarism
    • Pituitary Gland Tumors

And other conditions including disruptions of the adrenal glands, ovaries, and testes.

UNC Endocrinology – UNC Hospitals Outpatient Center at Eastowne is located at 100 Eastowne DriveChapel Hill, NC 27514. As a subspecialty clinic, we are not set up to function as primary care physicians and thus primarily see patients referred from other physicians. If, however, you do not currently have a primary care provider we can help you find one.
