Women and Men’s Health Physical Therapy

Women’s and Men’s Health physical therapy is a general term used to describe physical therapy to treat men and women with pelvic floor dysfunction, in addition to musculoskeletal or lymphatic dysfunction that may result from cancer and/or cancer treatment. Our skilled women and men’s health physical therapists evaluate and treat both adult and pediatric populations. Each patient will receive a personalized treatment plan with the ultimate goal of self-management of ones’ symptoms. Physical therapy may help to restore your ability to perform functional activities, and can also greatly enhance your quality of life.

Diagnoses seen include, but are not limited too:

  • Anal or rectal pain
  • Anorgasmia (inability to have an orgasm)
  • Coccydynia (tailbone pain)
  • Constipation
  • Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
  • Fecal Incontinence
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Levator Ani Syndrome
  • Lymphedema
  • Pelvic Pain (male & female)

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH WOMEN AND MEN’S HEALTH THERAPY:

During the initial visit each patient will receive a thorough evaluation—at this time, your physical therapist will work with you to establish a plan of care.  Treatment may include any or all of the following, depending on your diagnosis and your specific symptoms and goals for treatment:

  • Manual techniques to restore normal pelvic floor muscle tone and function (these may be internal or external techniques)
  • Biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle retraining
  • Electrical stimulation for pelvic floor muscle strengthening and/or retraining
  • Posture re-training
  • Stretching and/or strengthening
  • Scar massage and mobilization
  • Myofascial release
  • Complete Decongestive Therapy
  • Manual lymphatic Drainage
  •  Bandaging
  •  Exercises
  • Education & Skin care
  • Fitting and/or recommendation for compression garments
  • Dry Needling
