Spinal Trauma
Injuries and accidents can affect the entire length of the spine. There can be a wide spectrum of injury patterns, depending on the severity of the trauma and location of the injury.
Fractures involving the cervical spine can put the spinal cord at-risk. Unstable patterns often require surgical stabilization. However, simple fragility fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine can be treated with a brace and/or pain medications.
Treatment
Treatment immediately after a spinal cord injury can help limit nerve damage. Depending on the severity, extensive rehabilitation may be needed to learn to live with less mobility and feeling.
