Student Nurse Externship
Program Overview
The Student Nurse Externship is a 10-week, paid summer position for rising senior ADN & BSN nursing students.
Application period for 2025 will open between October – November 2024. Positions are filled as applications are received. Once they are filled, they are removed from the Careers website.
Summary
The goal of the Student Nurse Externship is to provide valuable patient care experiences in a supportive clinical environment. As a Student Nurse Extern, you will learn professional development, time management, organizational understanding, and enhancing self-confidence in an acute clinical setting.
- Work with RN preceptor and observe RN skills
- Independently function based on assigned checklist
- Engage in other learning opportunities (i.e.: Observation experiences in 1-3 other clinical areas)
- Demonstrate clear and effective communication
Application Process
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled as a rising senior for an ADN or BSN nursing program
- Have an active listing as Nursing Assistant with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
Other Information
Education Requirements: Completion of junior (first year) level in a Professional ADN or BSN School of Nursing and evidence of active enrollment in a nursing school required
