UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health
UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health is a 54-bed inpatient facility offering a first-of-its-kind model of mental health care for children and teens. Our patients need short-term hospitalization to stabilize a mental illness. We’re also one of the only facilities in the state to care for children with acute psychiatric conditions and co-occurring developmental disabilities or substance use conditions.
Patients are accepted by referral only. This is not a drop-off location for a child in crisis, and it is not a long-term residential behavioral health facility. Our goal is to help each child recover and return home as quickly as possible. We’ll also work to set up outpatient care so they can continue to recover after they return home.
Caring for your child’s mental health means caring for their whole person. We offer various therapies that help kids learn coping skills and emotional regulation. Your child receives the support they need to start on a path toward recovery.
