Rotation Description:
Residents will be exposed to patients with a variety of cardiovascular disease states, including but not limited to, acute coronary syndromes (ACS), stable coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, pericarditis, endocarditis, pocket and device infections, valvular disease, and other rhythm disturbances requiring device placement.
Throughout the rotation, emphasis will be placed on integrating clinical guidelines and primary literature into the care of patients with cardiovascular disease in order to optimize their medical management. Residents will also have opportunities throughout transitions of care, including completion of medication reconciliation activities, management of acute cardiovascular issues, development of a discharge medication regimen, communication of outstanding issues to outpatient providers, and patient counseling.
Topics covered during the rotation will include, but are not limited to the following: early ACS, dual antiplatelet therapy in CAD, rate vs. rhythm control in atrial fibrillation, anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation, peri-op management of CABG patients, valvular disease, and standard and advanced heart failure therapies.
