Rotation Title
Advanced Operations – Central Inpatient Pharmacy
Rotation Description
The Advanced Operations – Central Inpatient Pharmacy Rotation has been designed in conjunction with the University of North Carolina Medical Center (UNCMC) Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency Program, and the ASHP Educational Outcomes, Goals, and Objectives for the PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residents.
This administration rotation is a 4-week rotation that will specifically focus on the operational management aspects of the Central Inpatient Pharmacy (CIP). This will allow the resident to understand the departmental, institutional, and health system structure. The resident will also gain in in-depth understanding of the operations of CIP. The rotation focuses on pharmacy leadership, human resources, performance improvement, strategic planning, policy development, and project management. Depending on departmental and CIP initiatives, the resident may be involved with the planning and implementation of new automation systems or upgrades of existing systems. The resident will become an integral part of the operational teams and the quality and safety initiatives undertaken by the department. Furthermore, the rotation will provide the resident with an opportunity to further develop writing, speaking, organizational, time management, teamwork, and leadership skills by achieving the objectives and goals stated below.
