Advanced Pediatric Psychiatry 

Rotation Description:

UNC Health’s Youth Behavioral Hospital is a 54-bed, 4-unit inpatient psychiatry facility for adolescents and young adults aged 10-24 years old, including a unit for intellectual developmental disorders. Common disease states include depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral/conduct disorders, bipolar disorder, and psychosis-related disorders. Resident experiences will include rounding with the treatment team, leading medication education groups, and presenting to medical residents/students as opportunities arise. Objectives include understanding differences in psychiatric treatment of pediatric/young adult patients, identifying safe and appropriate treatment regimens for common pediatric psychiatry disease states, developing effective communication skills with pediatric patients for medication education, and demonstrating active participation as part of a treatment team.
