Rotation Description
The acute care medical oncology rotation is a learning experience in which the resident will develop clinical pharmacy skills associated with the management of patients with solid tumor oncologic disorders. Knowledge of primary treatments, supportive care, and management of complications in patients with solid tumors will be emphasized. Resident responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities: daily patient care rounds with teaching service, counseling patients on discharge medications and chemotherapy, transitions of care, in-services to the healthcare team or pharmacy staff depending upon need, patient presentations, topic discussions and precepting learners of all levels collaboratively with the preceptor. The medical oncology service is a dynamic environment that requires attention to detail and extensive follow up. The turnover for the service is very high which makes for a fast-paced environment.
