Rotation Title
Oncology Administration
Rotation Description
The pharmacy leaders for both COG and CHIP serve to guide their teams to provide high-level, patient-centered cancer care. The Oncology Administration rotation is a 1-month long experience that will focus on management of a hematology/oncology service line within an academic medical center setting. It is designed to expose the resident to the complexities of management of an oncology service line, which includes acute care and ambulatory clinical oncology services as well as operational services. The learner will gain an understanding of oncology service line structures, workflows, and priorities. This experience will focus on principles and skills of leadership, performance and quality improvement, finance, human resources, and strategic planning. There will also be a large focus on project management. The learner will engage with hematology/oncology team members and other leaders as they navigate activities that include, but are not limited to, coordination, communication and implementation of new initiatives, evaluating and justifying oncology pharmacy resources, adaptation of coverage models as necessary, addressing daily needs/concerns of the oncology pharmacist, problem-solving oncology-related issues, drug shortage management, and retrieval and analysis of data to drive decision making.
