Adult Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic
Rotation Description
The Multidisciplinary Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at UNC provides specialized care to patients with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, pouchitis, short bowel syndrome, and other gastroenterology disease states. Located at UNC Hospitals Outpatient Center at Eastowne, the team is comprised of seven physicians, four nurse coordinators, one nurse practitioner, and one clinical pharmacist practitioner. One responsibility of the resident will be participating in the pharmacist-led clinic two half days a week, seeing patients started on new advanced therapy for management of their IBD. During these visits, the resident will assess clinical response to new therapy using appropriate IBD scoring tools and provide recommendations on continuation, changes, or additions to therapy. Additionally, the resident will be expected to answer drug consult questions, provide patient/provider/nurse education, act as liaison to UNC Medication Access Team and Eastowne Therapeutic Infusion Center, and address patient issues or concerns via patient preferred method of communication. The resident will also participate in resident-led topic discussions and journal clubs throughout the rotation.
