PGY2 Pediatric Elective: Pediatric Clinical Evenings

Rotation Description

This learning experience is a multidisciplinary environment in the North Carolina Children’s Hospital in which the learner will develop clinical pharmacy skills associated with the management of varied pediatric patients. The pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through the intensive care units as well as the general pediatric floors. The shift takes over clinical pharmacy responsibilities for all pediatric services including but not limited to: bone marrow transplant, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general pediatrics, general surgery, genetics, hematology/oncology, immunology, neonatal intensive care, nephrology, neurology, pediatric intensive care, pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, pulmonology and several others. Learners will have the opportunity to explore major conditions that commonly present in pediatric patients along with their management, assess and monitor drug therapy, educate patients and caregivers, respond to drug information inquiries, document clinical interventions, and participate in pediatric rapid responses & code events.
