Current Volunteers

We appreciate all of our hard-working and caring volunteers at UNC Health. Visit the links below to review important information for current volunteers.

Office Locations

The Chapel Hill Volunteer Services Office is located in the hallway between the Memorial/Bedtower Elevators and Corner Café on the ground floor of NC Memorial Hospital. Stop at any information desk for additional directions. The Hillsborough Volunteer Services Office is located on the ground floor around the corner from the Chapel through the Volunteer Workroom.

Dress Code

Volunteers must wear the following while volunteering: plain polo in white, navy blue, or Carolina blue (short or long sleeve allowed), long pants or skirt, close-toed shoes, hospital ID badge - provided by us, and any required COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Jeans, shorts, sweatpants, or athleticwear (including leggings), and open-toed shoes or sandals are not permitted.

Parking

Those affiliated with The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or UNC Health cannot park in the visitor parking deck (Dogwood). UNC-CH regulates all parking; therefore, we are unable to assist with parking passes or tickets.

If you are not affiliated with these entities you qualify to have your parking paid for by Volunteer Services. Please speak to your Volunteer Coordinator if this was not discussed during your placement interview.

Parking is free for everyone at Hillsborough Hospital.

Absences (including Holidays or Inclement Weather)

You are not expected to volunteer during the holidays or in the case of inclement weather. However, most areas within the hospital will operate as usual. If you want to volunteer on a holiday, please do! Check with your area if you are unsure if they will be open.

As for Wellness Days, Fall Break, Spring Break, etc., your volunteer area will expect you to be onsite unless you tell them otherwise.

Ensure you inform your Volunteer Coordinator and Area Liaison about any absences. Volunteers should take into account any time that is missed as make-up shifts may be necessary to meet the hour requirement.
